ALONE I LIKE TO BE ALONE REFLECTS ON THE INTERNAL CONFLICTS THAT ARISE FROM SOCIAL COERCION. IT EXPLORES SOCIAL AND INSTITUTIONAL ARRANGEMENTS, REDEFINING AND SUBVERTING COLLECTIVE DECORUM. WHETHER IT BE RELIGIOUS NORMS, IMPERATIVES TO BE HYPERPRODUCTIVE, THE FAMILY, OR EVEN FRIENDSHIP ITSELF, WE ALL RELATE TO THE SOCIAL STRUCTURES THAT GIVE SHAPE TO OUR LIVES. WE RESONATE WITH THEM. WITHIN THESE RESONANCES, RELATIONSHIPS BETWEEN SELVES, BODIES, AND IDENTITIES ARE FORGED. BUT SO TOO ARE THE INSURMOUNTABLE SEPARATIONS THAT KEEP US ALONE.
THIS PERFORMANCE WILL PLAY ON OUR AMBIVALENT RELATIONSHIP TO LONELINESS. AS A PERFORMATIVE AND ALSO SCULPTURAL INSTALLATION, IT WILL REPRODUCE AND SIMULATE THE RESONANCES THAT TIE US TO EACH OTHER. IT WILL DOCUMENT THEIR MOVEMENT, GROWTH, AND EVOLUTION, BUT ALSO THEIR DECAY.
GLORIA VIKTORIA REGOTZ IS A SWISS ARTIST BASED BETWEEN BERLIN (DE) AND STALDENRIED (CH). IN HER PRACTICE, SHE INTEGRATES THE BODY INTO A VARIETY OF DISCIPLINARY FORMS, SUCH AS PERFORMANCE, INSTALLATION, SCULPTURE, AND VIDEO.
